I’ve only had a few opportunities to shop at an Asian grocery store, and each visit has been a lot of fun. They always offer a unique experience compared to my usual western supermarket trips. Asian grocery stores provide a wide variety of foods I can’t find locally. Since these stores are usually out of town for me, I’m likely to pick up convenient snacks and drinks than fresh exotic produce or seafood.
As I thought about the snacks from Asia I’ve tried and really enjoyed, I wanted a way to revisit these favorites without overspending or traveling. Being price-conscious, I started looking for an online store to buy familiar items and discover new ones. That’s when I found Weee!
What is Weee! Groceries?
Weee! is an online supermarket with a massive inventory of food and household products sourced from Asian vendors. Dubbed “America’s largest online Asian supermarket,” I can believe this claim after a minute of browsing the site! They even have a convenient app, and in select areas of the United States, Weee! offers next-day delivery service for fresh groceries.
As a first-time user, I was able to snag a limited-time $10 coupon. To qualify for free shipping, orders need to total at least $50. I ended up filling my cart with 18 items, and after applying the coupon, my total came to $43. The shipping speed was impressive—my box arrived in just four days!
Now, let’s unbox my first order of Asian snacks and drinks from Weee!, shall we?
What I Ordered From Weee!
Lay’s Spicy Crayfish Potato Chips – $3.58 for 2 bags
I ordered the minimum two-bag purchase of these spicy crawfish potato chips. If you enjoy seafood flavors with an extra kick, these chips are sure to hit the spot. I’ve tried some unique chip flavors from the UK before, and I shouldn’t have been surprised that other countries have their own distinct varieties too. I’m already looking forward to my next chip taste test—how about Roasted Cumin Lamb or even Fried Crab?
Want Want Senbei Rice Crackers – $3.56 for 2 bags
After sampling a duo pack of crunchy rice crackers called Want Want Senbei, I knew I had to have more, and I shared them with my family and converted them to fans too! These sweet and savory vegan snack crackers are actually the most popular rice cracker in Asia. Each bag contains 16 packs of two crackers, making them perfect for snacking. If I were still in school, these would be a lunchbox staple!
Pejoy Matcha Green Tea Cream Filled Biscuit Sticks – $2.79
This is another snack I’ve tried before, and it’s become a favorite. Similar to Pocky Sticks, Pejoy sticks have a twist: instead of being dipped, the biscuit sticks are filled with a creamy matcha green tea center. As a big fan of green tea candy and baked goods, I couldn’t resist picking these again. Are you a fan of green tea treats too?
Kirin Bottled Afternoon Milk Tea – $2.49
I took a chance with this one! Milk tea is my occasional warm evening treat, but cold versions are available in convenience stores and vending machines across Asia. This 16.9 ounce bottle cost me $2.50, and the drink itself has an equal blend of black tea, sugar, and milk. Now I know for certain milk tea tastes good both hot AND cold!
Vita Chrysanthemum Tea (6 boxes) – $3.79
Years ago, when my mother and I visited an Asian grocery store, we picked up these boxed chrysanthemum teas as a healthier alternative to the sweet fruit juice boxes we usually see in the U.S. I couldn’t help but think of her when I saw these boxes while shopping online—she loves them!
Itoen Kaori Kaoru Mugicha Barley Tea (54 bags) – $5.49
I’d been reading about the digestive health benefits of barley tea, as well as how roasted barley makes a good coffee alternative. This tea has an earthy, robust flavor on its own, but I sweetened it with sugar and had myself some unusual iced tea throughout the week. After reading some positive reviews, I purchased this pack of 54 bags and discovered they’re are much larger than typical tea bags. Each bag is enough to brew one quart of tea.
Ugly Cake (pack of 6) – $5.79
I can’t help but feel sorry for these cakes with a name like “Ugly Cake,” but as the saying goes, don’t judge a book by its cover! These individually wrapped cakes may have fallen tops, giving them a smushed appearance, but their vanilla flavor and pillowy soft texture more than makes up for it. Think pound cake, and let’s be honest: there’s no such thing as an unattractive pound cake!
Kopiko Blanca 3-in-1 Creamy Instant Coffee Mix (10 sachets) – $4.29
I can’t recommend Asian instant coffee enough. Their packets are perfect for on-the-go and include coffee, creamer, and sugar—all in one. Kopiko Blanca, from the Philippines, reminds me of a creamy cappuccino.
G7 3-in-1 Coffee (20 sachets) – $14.37 for 3 bags
From Vietnam comes one of my favorite coffees: G7 3-in-1. I like to add extra milk and sugar to make it stretch for a full coffee mug, since the sachets are portioned for smaller cups. I just love these pre-portioned packs!
Mr. Brown Blue Mountain Blend Canned Coffee – $4.47 for 3 cans
From packets to cans, coffee on Weee! comes in all forms! My relative is a big fan of these petite cans of Mr. Brown coffee and swears they have the smoothest taste.
UHA Kororo Grape Gummy Candy – $2.79
I must confess this small pouch of grape gummies disappeared as quickly as I unboxed them, and I forgot to snap a picture! Lucky for me, I remembered an image of my first experience with these gummies 7 years ago as part of a Japanese snack subscription box (see below). I love that unmistakable, slightly artificial grape candy flavor and fragrance. It’s intoxicating! What’s amazing about these gummies are their texture, which closely mimics real grapes, including the fruit skin!
First Impressions of My First Weee! Order
Considering my location, Weee! is by far the most convenient option for ordering international groceries online. The prices were comparable to in-store shopping, with a reasonable $50 minimum for free shipping and surprisingly fast delivery. For this order, I chose items shipped directly from Weee!’s warehouse, but in the future, I may try products shipped exclusively from vendors, though I’ll expect a longer wait for those.
One thing to note when shopping at Weee! is that some products come with minimum purchase requirements. For instance, when I decided to try the Lay’s chips, the product page specified a minimum order of two bags. Thankfully, I devoured the spicy crawfish chips, but if you want to try something new and aren’t sure, take note!
Weee! included a complimentary reusable tote bag in my order, commemorating their 9-year anniversary. Who doesn’t appreciate a free bag?
Final Thoughts on Weee! Groceries
I can see myself using Weee! a couple of times a year to restock favorites and discover new foods. The site is easy to navigate, the prices fit my budget, and everything arrived safely and securely. If you can’t meet the $50 minimum for free shipping, there’s a $5.99 fee. So why not get friends and family to join in on an order? There’s something for everyone at Weee!
