In my household, one brand of peanut butter reigns supreme: Jif! I won’t waste your time lining up all of the popular brands of peanut butter and explaining in exhaustive detail why Jif is the preferred choice—I don’t have an answer. Sometimes, brands are number one simply because it’s what you’re used to. I can’t imagine a time in my life when a jar of Jif wasn’t in my family’s kitchen. Nor can I picture my cookbook shelf without bookmarked recipes of no bake cookies! They save a lot of time and come in many forms.
Naturally, I have used Jif creamy and smooth peanut butter in dessert recipes before, including what just might be the best no bake recipe of them all: chocolate peanut butter cookies. In some of my local cookbooks, this cookie recipe is sometimes listed under “preacher cookies,” which I believe stems from the hospitable tradition of preparing a fast dessert to serve if one’s church pastor stopped by for a visit! If you like the rich peanut taste with cocoa and quick oats, this is the best and quickest way to have your cookie and eat it too.
I haven’t made “preacher cookies” in some time when I received a complimentary jar of Jif’s newest flavor, Peanut Butter & Chocolate. Did you know that this is Jif’s first flavored spread in almost 10 years? As a fan of chocolate and peanut butter, I was very excited to try this. Not to be confused with hazelnut spreads currently on the market, Jif Peanut Butter & Chocolate flavored spread contains no hazelnuts and has 50% less sugar than the leading cocoa hazelnut product. Since I’m allergic to hazelnuts anyway, Jif’s latest creation had me feeling safe and secure, and also hungry!
My initial taste test of Jif Peanut Butter & Chocolate was very positive. First and foremost, it tasted almost identical to a chocolate peanut butter cup! The core flavor remains peanut butter, but the chocolate gives it a sweet boost that doesn’t overstay its welcome. It was a no-brainer to use this spread not as a dip or on a slice of toast. My favorite oven-free cookie recipe was calling me! And, because Jif’s spread contained both peanut butter and cocoa, I could recreate no bake chocolate peanut butter cookies by eliminating an extra ingredient!
You only need 5 other ingredients to prepare these easy chocolate peanut butter cookies using Jif’s Peanut Butter & Chocolate spread: butter, sugar, milk, quick oats, and vanilla extract.
How to Make No Bake Jif Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies
In a medium saucepan, I added one stick of butter, two cups of sugar, and half a cup of milk, and I brought them to a boil for 3 minutes. The liquid becomes quite frothy and bubbly.
Once time is up, remove the saucepan from the heat source and act fast! Add 2 cups of quick oats, half a cup of Jif’s Peanut Butter & Chocolate spread, and a teaspoon of vanilla. Stir everything. It may not look pretty, but if anything, the sweet scent of cocoa and peanut butter are a perfect sign of what’s to come.
Line a large cookie sheet (or two) with wax paper and use a spoon to pour drops onto the sheet. Don’t worry if it looks more like liquid than cookie dough. The mixture will set rather quickly.
I ended up with about two dozen cookies and left them on top of my cooled stove to set. But if you’re feeling impatient, pop them in the fridge for about 10 minutes and they should peel right off the wax paper.
I can’t tell you how delicious these no bake oatmeal cookies are! The quick oats bring the chew and the sugar and butter mixture solidify the ingredients in a toss up between cookies and candy. They are definitely sweet! They taste better and hold their shape when chilled, making them perfect for storage in a tight container in your refrigerator!
What can I use if I don’t have Jif Peanut Butter & Chocolate?
No problem! An alternative to Jif Peanut Butter & Chocolate spread is half a cup of smooth peanut butter and half a cup of cocoa powder.
The next time you’re craving the classic pairing of chocolate and peanut butter, I hope you will consider giving this no bake Jif chocolate peanut butter cookies recipe a go. Jif’s creamy blend of their popular peanut butter with chocolate is so worth adding to your kitchen pantry! Feel free to share how you use Jif Peanut Butter & Chocolate in the comments!
