As 2021 marches on, I am continuing my cooking adventure with Storage Chef, a food storage subscription service that offers family friendly meals for emergency use or for households on a tight budget. For about $40 a month, you can receive 40 servings of food selected by the website to add to your storage supply. Higher subscription packages are available too. The best part: the only ingredient you need to add to these foods is water!
Like my introductory post, this follow up includes 3 more foods offered by Storage Chef:
Storage Chef 6 Grain Cereal With Honey
When I first received my order from Storage Chef, the package that grabbed my attention the most was the 6 Grain Cereal With Honey. (Anything with honey sounds like a winner to me.) I confess I didn’t try it until after I tested some of Storage Chef’s other foods.
The cereal is just like oatmeal, warm and filling. I brought the oat mix and water to a boil on the stove and then let it simmer for 3 minutes. During this stage, I was surprised to see the oatmeal foam on top!
Once time was up, I realized the cereal needed some extra time to absorb the liquid and thicken, so I waited an extra 5-10 minutes.
My friend and I served ourselves a bowl and added a drizzle of honey and a pat of butter. The oats were perfectly soft and yummy! By the way, the 6 grains in this cereal are barley, white wheat, red wheat, rye, rolled oats, and triticale seeds. All nutrition information for the foods offered by Storage Chef can be found on their website.
Storage Chef Chicken A La King
You might recall my first Storage Chef post showed a picture of the packaging for Chicken A La King, yet I didn’t feature it! Now I’m giving it the spotlight. I never had Chicken A La King and assumed it was like Chicken Pot Pie and I could serve it over biscuits. In actuality, it’s a creamy chicken pasta and rice dish with various chopped vegetables.
You can see the pouch contains lots of coiled noodles!
This meal took about 20 minutes total from stove to table, but it actually cooked quicker than the package directions. The thickness of the Chicken A La King surprised me, but I enjoyed each bite. This meal could benefit from additional seasonings based on one’s taste preferences, and even though it’s not exactly like Chicken Pot Pie, it’s hearty and pairs well with a biscuit!
Storage Chef Vanilla Pudding
Sweet tooth foodies will like this one. The vanilla pudding mix is a simple powder mix that smelled so good when I first opened the pouch. It reminded me of authentic vanilla bean. I added the mix to a cup of water and stirred out the lumps with a spoon. I highly recommend using a whisk for this task.
As the mixture heated, the product went from liquid to thick pudding in no time! I was able to divide the finished product into four small snack cups. The pudding was warm when my family consumed it; I found the flavor similar to white chocolate. The texture was just right, and it was definitely sugary! It helped cap off a weekday dinner.
Once again Storage Chef delivers food products that are pleasing to the palette. Everything is so easy to fix, the servings are filling, and best of all, the pouches last for many years. It’s been great creating a stockpile of these foods for my family for future use.
